Baileigh Jane Releases “Who Are You,” Blending Folk Guitar and Alt-R&B in a Story of Self-Discovery
Baileigh Jane opens a new chapter with “Who Are You,” a single that fuses fingerstyle folk guitar and lush alternative R&B production into a meditative exploration of trust and identity. Released in the heart of winter, the track invites listeners to embrace uncertainty, drifting between moments of intimacy and unease.
As a transmasc nonbinary artist from Jacksonville, Florida, now based in Brooklyn, Baileigh Jane brings a deeply personal lens to their solo project, which began after coming out and starting gender-affirming care. “Who Are You” is the first release to feature harmonized vocals from both their pre and post-transition voice, turning the song into a literal and emotional time capsule. “One thing I love about a song like this is how much I’ve changed while writing, composing, producing, and performing it,” Baileigh shares. “It captures where I started, where I am now, and how I’m choosing to share it.”
The song’s journey began in 2020 as a folk piece, anchored by a haunting fingerstyle guitar hook. Over time, it evolved into an alternative R&B track, shaped by nostalgic soundscapes and soulful harmonies reminiscent of Faye Webster and Steve Lacy. Sliding guitar riffs, swelling dynamics, and a somber string outro give the song a slow-burning tension that lingers after the final note. “I wrote this song like one part ‘Can you trust them?’ and one part ‘Can you trust yourself?’” Baileigh explains. “It might not give you answers, but it will definitely leave you searching for them.”
A self-taught songwriter since childhood, Baileigh Jane is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer who has self-produced their entire discography. For “Who Are You,” they collaborated for the first time with James Littier of HMNI Productions, who provided drums and handled mixing and mastering.
“Who Are You” is the first of six planned releases from Baileigh Jane in 2026. The artist will perform throughout NYC as summer approaches, including queer music showcases hosted and organized through Conduit Media, the collective and label Baileigh founded.
“Who Are You” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
About Baileigh Jane
Baileigh Jane is a Brooklyn-based, transmasc nonbinary singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and self-producing artist originally from Jacksonville, Florida. Self-taught since the age of five, Baileigh blends genre-fluid influences—ranging from Khruangbin and NewJeans to Blood Orange and Prince—into soulful, dreamy songs that sit between folk, pop, and alternative R&B. Known for soulful, dreamy, pop-infused songwriting, the Brooklyn-based artist previously drew attention with tracks like “Nonissue” and “Follow” from their self-produced EP Transitions, earning coverage from V13, Indiefferential, and Pario Mag.
After coming out publicly and recommitting to their artistic identity, Baileigh began revisiting and completing years of unreleased demos, weaving themes of gender, transformation, and self-trust into their work. Their music is deeply personal yet expansive, shaped by a DIY ethos and selective collaborations with engineers including Brok Mende (Friends of Friends Recording) and James Littier (HMNI Productions). As Baileigh Jane brings their coastal twang to Brooklyn, their mission remains unchanged: to connect those who feel forgotten with the deepest parts of themselves—even when the path there moves through grief.
Beyond their solo work, Baileigh is the founder of Conduit Media, a queer music collective and label through which they host and curate queer music showcases across NYC. With a growing focus on collaboration and production, Baileigh continues to build community-centered spaces for emerging artists while expanding their craft both onstage and behind the boards.
